Protect kupuna from potentially toxic fumes
Mahalo nui loa to Andrew Gomes for his front-page story on the Chinatown senior affordable-housing plan (“Chinatown senior affordable-housing plan causes dispute between organization, developer,” Star-Advertiser, Oct. 19).
In this time of pandemic, we are learning more and more about the airborne spread of virus and disease and how it can lead to respiratory failure and even death.
The idea of housing our most vulnerable kupuna in the path of potentially toxic emissions, which can enter their lungs, deserve closer scrutiny and caution. Especially now, as recently we are seeing the effects of insufficient protective measures in our senior care facilities.

Does Trump support people of color, too?
I have noticed a sprinkling of people of color — Asians, Pacific Islanders and others — at the Trump rallies here in Honolulu. They are often driving huge pick-up trucks with big U.S. flags and honk with enthusiasm as they drive past each other at these rallies. I get it that they like Donald Trump, but have they ever stopped to consider what he thinks of them? Just asking.

Racial equality and hapa Black Asians
I strongly believe in racial equality as a goal for our nation.
The world is being strongly influenced by hapa Black Asians. Tiger Woods is the most influential golfer in the world and won The Masters again in 2019.
Naomi Osaka is a Black Asian tennis player from Japan, who became the No. 1 player in the world.
Rui Hachimura is the first NBA professional basketball from Japan. He was born in Japan, played for Gonzaga when it was ranked No. 1 in college basketball, and is now playing for the Washington Wizards.
Kamala Harris is Jamaican Black and Indian Asian now running for vice president of the United States.
The world would be so much better, if everyone would just realize that all cultures and ethnicities should be respected, and that some of its best members of the human race are a harmony of two cultures.
