The Pacific West Conference said it plans to restart conference play in men’s and women’s basketball Jan. 18 and will follow later with soccer and volleyball.
The basketball season, as approved by the league’s executive board, will run for seven weeks from mid-January through the first week of March.
“This is a big step forward for our conference in our continuing efforts to safely return to competition during these challenging times,” commissioner Bob Hogue said in a release. “We’ve been working hard to create the right conditions for student-athletes to have meaningful seasons of competition in a way that minimizes risk and is in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.”
The schedules for each of the PacWest sports will include in pod games, splitting the conference into three pods: Hawaii, Northern California and Southern California.
Hawaii Pacific, Chaminade and Hawaii Hilo make up the Hawaii pod.
The previously canceled fall sports of soccer and volleyball will also compete in pod during the spring semester. Soccer is expected to run from the beginning of February through early March and volleyball immediately following soccer, from mid-March to late April, the conference said.
