Off the News: Help the city plan for storm water

For anyone concerned about storm water issues such as stream maintenance and potential flooding, now’s your chance to provide input. The city is developing a Storm Water Master Plan, intended as a framework for management of Oahu’s system of streams, ditches, pipes, beach mouths and other storm water facilities.

Residents can weigh in on priorities such as water quality, flood prevention and infrastructure needs — and can even mark the locations of local flooding concerns using a simple mapping tool.

A doodle for Tommy Kono

Sunday was the 91st birthday of legendary Olympian weightlifter and bodybuilder Tamio “Tommy” Kono, who among his other trophies now can add the Google Doodle that ran for that occasion (www.google.com/doodles/tamio-tommy-konos-91st-birthday).

The story of the Sacramento-born athlete posted there is missing his history in Hawaii, where he moved a half-century ago, and where he died in 2016. Life in an internment camp in California taught him strength, but he would say it was Hawaii that gave him a home.
