July heralds one of my favorite foodie celebrations — National Ice Cream Month — with National Ice Cream Day on July 18. The following local ice cream businesses are celebrating in the sweetest way possible.

Churning Happiness

Keep an eye out for Sage Creamery (@sagecreamery) the next time you’re at the Blaisdell, Kailua or Mililani farmers markets. The local biz specializes in small-batch ice cream and just started selling root beer floats using its North Shore vanilla ice cream and Maui Brewing Co. root beer. Popular ice cream flavors include cookies and cream, kiawe honey lavender and Sage’s Tea, which is a combo of genmaicha tea and honey.

31 Flavors

Black Sheep Cream Co. doesn’t take National Ice Cream Month lightly — owner Tasi Reid came up with new flavors for every day of July. Yes, you read that correctly: the business will feature a brand-new flavor for 31 days straight at all locations (Waipio, Wahiawa and Kakaako). You can look forward to flavors like maple cream with choco-covered bacon, coconut cream with ube butter cake and more. These flavors will be announced weekly on Black Sheep Cream Co.’s Instagram (@blacksheepcreamco).

A Sweet Return

Pipeline Bakeshop & Creamery (3632 Waialae Ave.) will be having multiple ice cream specials throughout July and on National Ice Cream Day. The bakery’s signature Malamode — malasada-wrapped ice cream treat — will return, along with ice cream bombs (cake bomb and ice cream combos), ice cream cookie sandwiches, ice cream cakes and summer ice cream flavors.
