The 38th annual Maui Jim Maui Invitational is set to open on Nov. 22 with Chaminade University taking on the University of Oregon.
After holding the 2020 edition of the event in Asheville, N.C., due to COVID-19 restrictions, the tournament will make its return to the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui.
Oregon was last year’s Pac-12 regular-season champion after going 21-7. The Ducks later advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
This will be the first time the two teams have ever met, but Chaminade is already looking forward to the game. According to Chaminade head coach Eric Bovaird, the matchup is expected to be a special one, especially for Silverswords players with Pacific Northwest connections.
Guards Isaac Amaral-Artharee and DeRay Seamster, and assistant coach Kyle Mulligan are all Portland natives, while incoming graduate transfer Joseph Smoyer spent three years at the University of Portland.
Following the game with Oregon, Chaminade will take on either Saint Mary’s or Notre Dame in the second round. On the other side of the bracket, 2020 Final Four squad Houston will take on Butler, with Wisconsin facing Texas A&M.
All 12 games in the Invitational will be televised on ESPN Networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU).
