Proving some cuts heal faster than others, former University of Hawaii defensive back Rojesterman Farris II has signed a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos.
On Tuesday, the Chicago Bears cut Farris. Four days later, Farris said, “I got a call. The Broncos said, ‘we’re going to bring you up (to training camp), sign you. Get ready to work.’ ”
On Sunday, Farris reported to UCHealth Training Center in Englewood, Colo.
Farris, who was a shutdown cornerback with the Rainbow Warriors, was told he will compete as a defensive back and on special teams.
“Wherever I get in, I fit in,” Farris said. “I’ll do whatever. Whatever the coach asks me to do, I’m going to do. I’ll play it all.”
Farris completed his five-year UH career at the end of the 2019 season. He was not selected in the 2020 NFL Draft. But soon after, he was signed to a free-agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Farris was released on Aug. 4, 2020.
After that, Farris said, “I got a job so I could pay for my training and my car note.”
He said he worked at You Fit Gym near his home in Florida. He trained at Bommarito Performance Systems in Aventura, Fla. Defensive end Carlos Dunlap, running back Aaron Jones, and defensive backs Xavier Rhodes and Anthony Harris are among the NFL players who have trained at Bommarito.
“I met a lot of good people, good dudes who gave me good advice,” Farris said. “They told me to stick to it.”
In May, Farris signed with the Bears. But that association ended on Tuesday.
As for his joining the Broncos, Farris said, “I worked for this. No surprises. I’m going to keep working. You can’t be surprised if you work for it.”
Farris said his new contract comes with no guarantees.
“I still have to put the work in to make the team,” Farris said. “Nothing is set in stone. I have to make the 53 (-player) roster.”
