For a sixth week in a row, Kahuku is a unanimous No. 1 in the Star-Advertiser Football Top 10.
The defending, two-time Open Division state champions received all 10 first-place votes from a panel of coaches and media this week. Kahuku (9-1) had a bye over the weekend and will host No. 5 Kapolei on Saturday in the semifinal round of the OIA playoffs.
No. 2 Mililani and No. 3 Campbell will square off on Saturday at John Kauinana Stadium in the other OIA Open Division semifinal. Campbell advanced after a 41-0 win over Waianae.
No. 4 Punahou and No. 5 Saint Louis will meet on Saturday in the regular-season finale of ILH Open Division play. Punahou, 3-0 in league play, can clinch the ILH title with a win.
Lahainaluna moved up a notch to No. 9 after a 28-7 win over Baldwin. The Lunas close MIL regular-season action at home against Maui on Saturday.
Konawaena shellacked rival Kealakehe 77-0 to remain unbeaten in BIIF play. The Wildcats host Keaau in a regular-season finale on Saturday. Konawaena is the defending Division I state champion.
Meanwhile, Kapaa closed out KIF play with a 7-6 road win over defending D-II state champion Waimea on Saturday. Kapaa (8-0, 6-0) will be idle until the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships on the weekend of Nov. 10-11.
“We’ve got lots of injuries. We were down five starters going into the last game and lost two more in the first half,” Kapaa coach Mike Tresler said. “We have three weeks to heal up.”
Kapaa and Waipahu each have seven points in this week’s polling. The two teams met in the opening round of last year’s D-I state championships. Waipahu pulled out a wild 49-41 win, then knocked out top seed ‘Iolani 35-10 before falling to Konawaena in the final, 38-28.
