Off the news: Pace donations, more storms expected

Now that Hurricane Lala has fully retreated and Tropical Storm Moke has limped away, the need for assistance remains.

Getting storm victims fed remains top of mind for Hawaii County in particular, which has borne the brunt of this early hurricane season, and nonprofits such as the Big Island’s Food Basket (hawaiifoodbasket.org/donate) are dishing out the food and taking in contributions daily.

But as this is a “Super El Nino” year, there are expected to be another five to 13 tropical cyclones near here before 2026 is over, unfortunately. Those who have yet to offer their help will get another chance.
