The Mountain West Conference on Monday named University of Hawaii freshman defender Pana‘ewa Cayetano its Freshman of the Week for women’s soccer.
Playing center back, Cayetano keyed the Rainbow Wahine defense to a pair of nonconference shutouts last week – 3-0 over New Mexico State on Thursday and a 0-0 draw with Washington State on Sunday. Cayetano played 161 total minutes across the two matches and the Hawaii defense allowed just one shot on goal and 12 total shot attempts total,
The Rainbow Wahine are on a run of more than 400 minutes without allowing a goal.
The award is the second for the UH women this season. Olivia Dianda earned the same honor on Aug. 24.
The Rainbow Wahine (3-3-1) next take the field for their inaugural Mountain West opener on Sept. 24 at Colorado College.
