In recent months, much has been written and discussed about the critical shortage of primary care physicians (PCPs) in Hawaii. I felt the effects of this crisis in a personal way, as a retired physician.
My PCP retired last year and it took four months to get an appointment to see the new PCP, a newly arrived physician from the mainland. After a short time in Hawaii, for whatever reason, he decided to return to the Midwest. It took me another five months to find a new PCP, but the week before my first appointment with him, I was called to reschedule. Auwe!
