Whenever I see an aerial shot of the Stan Sheriff Arena — er, Bankoh Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center — on the University of Hawaii campus, I wonder why there isn’t a rainbow painted or projected on the dome. In real life, we get to see actual rainbows over Manoa. On TV sportscasts, you’ll often see that shot accompanied by Bruddah Iz’s rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Since UH already gives advertising rights to sponsors, why not ask a painting or roofing company to do the same? Then have UH students devise a means to project a rainbow on the arena. It could become an iconic state symbol. Call it the Bow Dome — or Your-Company-Name-Here Bow Dome. Go ’Bows!
