The commercials tug at your heart. It says that voting “yes” on constitutional amendment 2 will fix potholes, bridges and aging infrastructure. Hawaii News Now’s Daryl Huff has a story detailing what ConAm 2 is all about. It is basically for developers to use RISE (“Resilient Infrastructure for Shelter and Equity”) bonds to fund new infrastructure development. Money will supposedly be recouped by higher property taxes in the new development.
It is an admirable attempt to lower upfront costs that are normally paid by developers, but why are developers spending thousands of dollars on commercials that lie to people? Why not explain the exact reason for ConAm 2? I have serious reservations voting for an amendment that features commercials lying to the people of Hawaii. The locals in the commercials should be ashamed of lying to the public.
