Work has finally begun on a long-awaited new Emergency Medical Services headquarters in Kahuku. When completed in December 2028, the North Shore station will be more than 3,000 square feet, thrice the size of the current 900 square foot facility built in 1997.
“This year has demonstrated more than ever how vulnerable our North Shore communities are during natural disasters and how important strong infrastructure is to protecting our residents,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi at Friday’s groundbreaking for the $5.3 million project. The Kahuku EMS’ area of operation runs from Kaaawa to Pupukea.
