The city has grown its G.R.O.W. (Green Recycling Organic Waste) program across Oahu, now allowing all residents with three-cart automated curbside collection to dump food scraps and leftovers in their green compost carts. What started in April as a pilot in six communities has been expanded islandwide, and that’s a good thing for reducing the waste stream while boosting composting.
“If it GROWS, it goes” is the basic rule of thumb: place food waste in the green compost cart — loose, no bags allowed — the night before scheduled pickup.
