UH Hilo sweeps Biola in PacWest match
Alohi Garcia had a match-high 16 kills and Logan Blutreich added 13 with just one error as Hawaii Hilo swept visiting Biola 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 on Tuesday night.
The Vulcans (14-5,6-2 PacWest) hit .269 for the match, compared to just .119 by the Eagles (14-5,6-2).
Anolani Santos had a match-high 36 digs for UH Hilo.
Robinson making habit of MWC awards
The Mountain West Conference on Tuesday named University of Hawaii cross country runner Atarah Robinson its Freshman of the Week, her third time winning the award.
Robinson’s three honors have come after each of the three meets she has participated in. The last Mountain West student-athlete to win the award three times in one season was Natalia Ruiz of UNLV (2021).
Robinson led the Rainbow Wahine to a first-place finish Saturday in the 51st Charles Bowles Invitational, as she came in sixth by completing the 5k course at Bush Park in Salem, Ore., in 17:34.60.
Chaminade men’s golf takes fifth place
The Chaminade men’s golf team finished fifth Tuesday at the RCA Electric Invitational, played on the par-70 TPC Monterey at Pasadera Course in Monterey, Calif.
The Silverswords totaled 883, led by freshman Dale Swartwood’s 1-over 211, which included four birdies, landing him in a two-way tie for third, five shots behind medalist Mason Montgomery of Stanislaus State.
CU shot a 299 on the event’s final day.
The Silverswords’ Ethan Alexander post a 1-over 70 Tuesday to finish 14th at 217. Chance Wilson carded a final-round 78 for a 228 total. Tanner Capik shot 79 in his third round to cap a 230. Riley Born totaled 236 after an 84.
Stanislaus State took the team title, bettering host Menlo College by six strokes.
