The Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Drug Take Back Day is on Oct. 24, allowing Hawaii residents to easily dispose of expired medications. But for residents who rely on injectable medicine, medical sharps require a separate disposal process.
This responsibility is becoming more important with approximately 9 million Americans using medical sharps at home, resulting in more than 3 billion injections. But in a 2022 study conducted at a community care center, 57% of participants said they were unsure of how to dispose of used sharps.
If you use needles or sharps at home, knowing how to safely dispose of them is an important part of your healthcare routine. MyOldMeds.com shares Hawaii-specific guidance to help residents take that final step safely.
We want everyone in Hawaii who uses sharps to know where to find reliable disposal information. It’s guidance that can help protect you, your family and your island.
