This election season, Office of Hawaiian Affairs candidates are in favor of building on Kakaako Makai. Well, I am requesting that OHA pay the remainder of my mortgage.
When I refinanced five years ago, I knew the costs of the mortgage and I had an industry professional guiding me. The cost of the monthly payments are a burden I wish I didn’t have and solving that burden would allow me to accomplish other worthy goals. Sound familiar?
When the land for Kakaako Makai was accepted by OHA, they had, according to Gov. Neil Abercrombie, the best minds advising them. They also knew in 2012 that building restrictions were in place since 2006. Now they want to change the rules and get around them with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. What message does this send our youth? This just isn’t the way the world works.
