Vegas Advisor: Another NBA arena proposed for Las Vegas

It’s getting crowded in the pursuit to own the final major-league sports arena in Las Vegas. Adding to the ever-growing list of hopefuls to build the venue that will house the National Basketball Association’s putative Las Vegas expansion team, AREA15 has entered the fray. The developers of the new-age mall want to build on 50-plus acres of their property located across the freeway from the Strip. It’s the 10th credible proposal that’s been made public, ranging from locations on the far south end of the Strip to the downtown area. Before one of the projects is given the green light by the NBA, the league still has to announce the team and the winning ownership group, which is expected by the end of the year.

Allegiant Stadium: In more sports-venue news, a $158 million renovation project has been announced for the six-year-old Allegiant Stadium. Plans call for an elevated pedestrian deck, a public plaza and event deck, a dedicated rideshare/drop-off zone underneath the deck and space reserved for a future Tesla Loop station. Construction is slated to start after this football season, with a target completion date of late 2028, in time for Las Vegas to host the 2029 Super Bowl.

Derby returning: The first new Sigma Derby mechanical horse-racing game in decades is poised to debut at the Four Queens. Only one of the original Derby machines remains in existence at the Golden Gate, but the newly engineered version — built in an effort to keep it as close to the old one as possible — is expected to pop up in more casinos, given the game’s cultlike following that’s endured for decades. The new old Sigma Derby is expected to go live by the end of the year.

Question: Is it plausible to walk the entire length of the Strip?

Answer: Assuming you define the “entire length” as Mandalay Bay to the Sahara, it’s about 4-1/4 miles, so judge for yourself. Certainly, it’s more plausible in beautiful 70-degree October temperatures than 110 degrees in the dead of summer.
