Business slapped with fine for not filing taxes
The Hawaii Tax Department says the owner of a Honolulu grease cleaning business must pay a $12,000 fine and other court fees for failing to file her tax returns.
The department said in a statement that Wilmette K. Soon, owner of Restaurant Grease Busters, pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of failing to file company general excise and personal income tax returns from 2003 to 2008.
Soon must perform 300 hours of community service. Restitution was paid prior to sentencing.
The Tax Department said the grease trap cleaning business had average gross income between $400,000 and $500,000.
Fines for the misdemeanor offense of failing to file a tax return can reach $25,000 for individuals with one year of jail time.
Corporations face fines up to $100,000 per violation.
