Hawaii’s Lurline Fujii and Jane Pang captured championships at the USTA National Women’s Grass Court Championships, last month in hot and humid Forest Hills, N.Y. Both competed in the 70 age division.
Fujii, seeded second, won the "gold ball" in singles with a 7-6, 6-3 upset over top-seeded Sheila Weinstock in the final. Fujii did not lose a set in the singles draw.
Pang then teamed with Weinstock to beat Fujii and Belmar Gunderson, 6-4, 6-3, in the doubles final.
