Local chef competes at CIA
Sonny Longboy Acosta of Alan Wong’s restaurant placed fourth in the Commis Competition of Bocuse d’Or USA, a junior competition for young chefs held Saturday in New York at the Culinary Institute of America. The four finalists interpreted Poulet au Vinaigre, chicken in vinegar sauce.
Winner of a three-month apprenticeship at a three-star Michelin restaurant in France was Rose Weiss, an extern at Gramercy Tavern in New York City. Samuel Benson of Cafe Boulud in New York placed second, while Tristan Aitchison of Providence in Los Angeles came in third.
Judges included chefs Grant Achatz, Chris Hastings, Gabriel Kreuther, Alex Lee and Barbara Lynch.
Macrobiotic meal on the menu
Enjoy a macrobiotic, gluten-free community dinner featuring Black Bean Soup with Roasted Squash, Baked Ginger Tofu, Blanched Greens with Tahini Sauce, and a cookie sampler.
The dinner takes place 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Ave. Cost is $20 advance, $22 at the door, though reservations are requested by Sunday. To-go meals are also available.
