Gayot, the international dining, hotel and travel guide, has named Chef Mavro to its list of Top 40 Restaurants in the U.S.
The Honolulu restaurant is the only Hawaii venue named on the list.
Chef Mavro chef and owner George Mavrothalassitis, one of 12 chefs credited with creating Hawaii regional cuisine, is a James Beard Award winner whose French-influenced dishes center on the use of locally grown products.
Gayot evaluates restaurants using a 20-point scale; it awarded Chef Mavro 18 out of 20 points.
The restaurant is in heady company. Also picked for the Top 40 list are Daniel and Le Bernardin in New York, Alinea and Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago, Gary Danko in San Francisco and The French Laundry in Yountville, Calif.
Chef Mavro was also named one of Gayot’s Top 10 seafood restaurants.
