Oahu firefighters were busy Saturday, rescuing hikers from various trails around the island, a Fire Department spokesman said.

One man was transported to a local hospital after sustaining an arm injury, Capt. Gary Lum said. The man was hiking the Kuliouou Ridge when he fell off of the trail near the top around 2:20 p.m., Lum said. He was airlifted off the trail and transported to the hospital.

Before that, two hikers were rescued in Kaaawa near one of the trail’s waterfalls. The call came in around 12:45 p.m. that two hikers were in distress, Lum said. 

They started on the trail near Hua Malani Street and were uninjured when they called for help.

Around 4 p.m., rescue crews responded to a report that three hikers on a Waimanalo trail were unable to complete their hike. Lum said two of the hikers in the group were able to make it out, while three others stayed behind and called for help. He was unaware of any injuries.

And shortly after firefighters responded to that call, another came in from the Kuliouou trail around 4:14 p.m. Two hikers got lost off the trail and are waiting for the Fire Department’s rescue helicopter to be available to locate them, Lum said.
