The Diamond Head State Monument Foundation is holding a public meeting on Wednesday to discuss the proposed nomination of scenic roadways encircling Diamond Head as a designated "Hawaii Scenic Byway."
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Paki Hale in Kapiolani Park.
"The scenic area surrounding Diamond Head is a unique pedestrian experience that possesses all of the qualifying values for the Hawaii Scenic Byway designation," said Michelle Spalding Matson of the Diamond Head State Monument Foundation. "The Scenic Byway program will help inform and educate residents and visitors alike about the unique qualities of this historic area, while complementing and continuing to protect Diamond Head as a treasured public asset."
The foundation is the lead sponsor for the nomination, with support from Hawaii’s Thousand Friends, Scenic Hawaii, the Oahu Island Parks Conservancy and the Outdoor Circle.
