1Larry Jefts Farms is the second-largest farm tenant on the Ho‘opili site, leasing about 175 acres, some of which is used to grow seed corn. The company, which also does business as Sugarland Farms, said it leased the property from former owner Campbell Estate in 1994 with the expectation to be there no more than 10 years. “We have viewed our time on the land since 2005 as gravy, an unexpected extension,” Larry Jefts said in a June letter to the state Land Use Commission.
