Eight community members and businesses were honored Thursday at the National Philanthropy Day conference and luncheon at the Sheraton Waikiki.
The event was presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Aloha Chapter, and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The winners were Blossom Tyau of Palolo Chinese Home, outstanding volunteer; Times Supermarket, outstanding corporation; Regal Bakery, outstanding small business; Allen Zecha, outstanding philanthropist; Lawrence Rodriquez, the Paulette V. Maehara Leadership Award; and Polly Kauahi of the Hawaii Foodbank, outstanding professional fundraiser. Times Supermarket President Bob Stout and Regal Bakery President Kerry Lau accepted the awards for their companies.
Posthumous awards went to John R. Halligan, whose charitable fund supports artistic, cultural and civic organizations in Honolulu and Chicago; and Peter P.J. Ng, the late trustee and treasurer for the Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation.
