A 25-year-old man died Sunday afternoon after he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail on the H-3 freeway.

According to police, the crash happened in the Kaneohe-bound lanes near the Likelike Highway offramp at about 2:18 p.m. The rider’s helmet came off on impact and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an Emergency Medical Services report. Excessive speed was believed to have been a factor, according to police.

It was the 22nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared with 25 at the same time last year.
