The 1.2 megawatt La Ola solar farm on Lanai, finished by Castle & Cooke in 2009, became Hawaii's first utility-scale photovoltaic project. Now, Hawaiian Electric Co. is proposing to dramatically ramp up solar energy production on Oahu with nine solar projects totaling 240 megawatts of generating capacity.
