Rain transforms the experience of “A Space Between,” a site-specific installation at Spalding House by Andrew Binkley, in which gold paint was added to cracks in the asphalt. The rain adds another layer of reflection to the existing surfaces as well as motion and interaction.

The “golden waterfall” in the north west corner of the tennis courts represents an inversion of the ground-painting technique, reversing the density of black and gold, and showing the artist’s hand when it is set completely free instead of constrained by the system of cracks.
