Hiker who died in fall identified as Oahu man
The man who died after falling from a Kauai trail was identified Wednesday as Devin Goetsch of Honolulu.
Kauai police initially believed the 25-year-old victim was from Maui.
They say he fell while hiking with friends on the Waimea Canyon Trail on Tuesday afternoon. He
apparently lost his footing and slipped down the steep cliff.
Rescuers found his body about 700 feet below the point where he slipped.
An autopsy is pending. Police do not suspect foul play.
Maui man dies while clearing valley property
Maui authorities are investigating the death of a 57-year-old Napili man who died Monday while clearing his property in Honokohau Valley.
Maui police said Joseph Bento was found by a friend, unconscious under a large tree, with multiple injuries to his body.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death has not been determined pending autopsy results.
Waterline break closes down park restrooms
Restrooms at Launiupoko Beach Park have been closed due to a waterline break, Maui County officials said Wednesday.
Repairs are estimated to take several days, and portable toilets are available for use, according to a news release.
The county Department of Parks and Recreation said the Lahaina Aquatic Center is also closed through Thursday due to emergency repairs to a major waterline.
