The leading tip of the farthest downslope breakout from Puu Oo was abou 4.3 miles northeast of its vent on Puu Oo. The lava burned some forest on Thursday.

This Thursday photo looks upslope and shows a narrow lobe on the breakout that is roughly 4 miles northeast of Puu Oo. This lobe was moving along the south margin of the June 27th flow.

This photo taken Thursday looks east and shows the breakout about 4 miles from Puu Oo. The breakout consists of several narrow lobes, with a small amount of vegetation burning.
A vent on the south edge of Puu Oo crater erupted, creating a small lava flow within the crater, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists reported.
The vent eruption and lava flow began Tuesday.
The obsevatory also released new photos of surface lava breakouts near Puu Oo taken during a helicopter overflight Thursday.
The photos show the three breakout sites — on the northern flank of Puu Oo, near Puu Kahaualea, and about 3 to 4 miles northeast of Puu Oo continue to be active.
The lava flow northeast of Puu Oo burned into some vegetation Thursday.
