A Kapolei man is facing state charges for allegedly possessing and disseminating child pornography.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging David Sisombath with seven counts of promoting child abuse. Six of the charges each carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The seventh charge carries a maximum five-year prison term.
The state has served notice, however, that it may seek extended-term sentences if Sisombath is found guilty, which would double the maximum penalty for each of the charges.
Sisombath committed the crimes in September and October 2013, according to the indictment.
Circuit Judge Richard Perkins set Sisombath’s bail at $11,000.
Deputy Attorney General Albert Cook told Perkins that Sisombath disseminated child pornography over a peer-to-peer file sharing network and possessed 384 images and videos of child sexual abuse on six separate computers and hard drives. He said 44 of the files depict children under 12 years old.
Attorney General Douglas Chin said the case against Sisombath is the result of work done by Hawaii’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
