Fire investigators estimate the damage to a single-story Nanakuli home at $140,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents. The cause remains under investigation.
The fire, reported at 8:31 p.m. Wednesday, left the home at 89-328 Palikea St. a total loss, fire Capt. David Jenkins said. The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The blaze was under control at 9:18 p.m. and fully extinguished at 10:29 p.m.
The loss was emotional for homeowner Jen Halemano, who said the house has been in her family since her grandfather.
She lived there with her brother, husband and four children. Halemano’s sister and four children, living in Georgia, were staying at the house while her sister’s husband was deployed. She said all 12 got out safely.
