Improved Makapuu Lookout to greet hikers for New Year

Hikers looking to celebrate the first sunrise of 2016 with a brisk morning hike to the Makapuu Lookout will be greeted with a host of improvements to the popular state park.
Not only has the state Parks Divison completed resurfacing the path to the top of the two-mile rountrip hike, but new lookouts have been installed as well.
“First Day Hikes” are organized by America’s State Parks and are scheduled for all 50 states, although the hike at Makapuu attracts one of the largest crowds, according to state park officials.
“If people haven’t had a chance to experience Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline and the Makapu’u Lookout path in the past few months, New Year’s Day is a perfect opportunity to do so,” said State Parks Administrator Curt Cottrell.
“In my view this is one of the most unique ‘First Day Hikes’ in the country.”
The access gate to the park will be opened at 5:30 a.m. so hikers can reach the top lookout in time for the 7:11 a.m. sunrise. A Hawaiian blessing and greeting are scheduled. And Taiko drummers will be on hand to spur on hikers.

Have a toll booth for them hikers to contribute money just in case they need to be recused. Recusers don’t work for free.
Judges and jurors will probably be off that day.
Rescue teams can’t drive up the hill? Its not like there’s that many opportunities to get lost or seriously injured on that trail unless you’re feeling super suicidal.
This is a lovely area and the improvements are much appreciated. I have watched a number of sunsets from that lighthouse. Hawaii at its best.

Oh, so that’s why they have done all the improvements! Now bus loads of Asian tourist can be dropped off along the highway and hike up there for their bento lunches.
