Hokule’a begins voyage across the Atlantic Ocean

This Nov. 14 photo shows the voyaging canoe Hokule’a in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Polynesian voyaging canoe that is in the middle of its round-the-world journey left South Africa and is crossing the Atlantic Ocean heading for Brazil.
The crew of the Hokule’a set sail Thursday from Cape Town. Hokule’a plans to stop at the island of St. Helena, located in a British Overseas Territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean about midway between Africa and South America.
This is the first time the Hokule’a has attempted to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
The double-hulled canoe left Hawaii last year, and its crew members are sailing without modern navigation equipment. Along their three-year journey they are stopping to teach people in other countries about traditional navigation, Native Hawaiian culture and caring for the ocean.

My hat’s off to the crew of the Hokule’a. That’s how I feel about anyone who is preserving our Hawaiian culture.
agree..this is a positive effort. I wish we could get the so-called TNT protesters to do something positive and affirming for a change.
