Oahu recorded its first pedestrian fatality of the year when an 84-year-old man died Thursday after being struck by a car on Farrington Highway in Waianae near Tamura Super Market on Wednesday afternoon.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Francisco Molina of Waianae.

Police said Molina was crossing Farrington Highway in front of Tamura Super Market outside of a crosswalk at 1:50 p.m. when he was hit by a Honda Civic driven by a 30-year-old woman heading toward Makaha.

Molina was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition and died Thursday morning, police said. An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.

Speed and alcohol are factors in the accident, police said.

While Molina’s death was Oahu’s first fatality of the year, there were five at this time in 2015.

In another pedestrian accident this week, also on Farrington Highway, a 57-year-old woman was hit by a car at 10:49 p.m. Tuesday near the KFC fast-food restaurant on Kaupuni Street. The motorist, 29, struck the woman while traveling east on Farrington. The driver was not injured. The pedestrian was taken in critical condition by ambulance to a hospital, police said.
