Hawaii County police said Thursday that they are awaiting the results of DNA testing on human remains found near personal belongings of a Canadian woman who was reported missing in 2001.
Jessica Urbina, 21, of Montreal was vacationing in Hawaii in November 2000. She was reported missing in December 2001 to the Honolulu Police Department.
Urbina’s personal effects were found July 18 near human remains in Hawaiian Paradise Park on the Big Island. Police have said they don’t know whether the remains are those of Urbina.
Police are asking for anyone with information on Urbina to contact Detective Sandor Finkey at 961-2384 or sandor.finkey@ hawaiicounty.gov.
Lahaina burglars who assaulted resident sought
Maui police said Thursday they are still seeking two men who burglarized a Lahaina home Monday night and attacked the woman living there.
Police said the suspects broke into the home and assaulted the 65-year-old woman, who suffered serious injuries during the struggle.
The suspects fled before police arrived.
Pohoiki Beach fatality ID’d as California visitor
Hawaii County police Thursday identified the 70-year-old California visitor who apparently drowned Tuesday while snorkeling at Pohoiki Beach as Nancy Peacock of Martinez, Calif.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.
