Man arrested after boy dies, woman wounded in McCully stabbings
Police arrested a 26-year-old McCully man Monday in connection with stabbings that left a 5-year-old boy dead and a 29-year-old woman in critical condition.
The incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. in a second-floor unit of an apartment complex on Lime Street.
Police were initially called to respond to an argument at the residence. A late call reported the incident as a stabbing.
Honolulu Police Department Homicide Lt. Phillip Lavarias said that when officers arrived they found the armed suspect still at the scene. Officers persuaded the man to surrender his weapon and, on a subsequent search of the apartment found the two injured people.
Lavarias said the child sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest.
An Emergency Medical Services report said that the child suffered a cardiac arrest and was administered advanced cardiac life support before being transferred in critical condition to a local trauma center, where he later died.
The woman suffered multiple stab wounds to the back and was transported to a local trauma center in critical condition, according to EMS.
Lavarias said the suspect and the female victim may have been siblings. The child is believed to be related, as well, but as of Monday evening police had yet to confirm this.
The suspect and both victims resided in the apartment.

We can send a man to the moon and create a phone that does everything, but we still can’t stop senseless domestic violence.
Very sad and very true.
Because that’s how our legal system works. The police arrest them over and over again and our Hawaii court system lets 99.9% of them go. The ones that do get convicted are either on so called supervised release or free out in the public on work furlough because there’s no room in prison or the ACLU will sue.
The court system lets 99.9% of them go.
There’s no room in prison.
Strange, indeed, how there could be no room in our prisons if the courts let 99.9% of perps go.
Ha! Too funny.
Then we need Trumpy to be in charge of judiciary system!!! He will resolve everything. He’s smart!!! So he says!!!
`Aue. I’m so sad. Poor little boy.
I am so jammed up now. Why the kid??? So innocent. A kindergartener just starting his life.
So true. Innocent little boy….this is indisputable. No child so young deserves such a violent end. Adults are meant to shelter and protect children, not take their lives. I can’t imagine the life ending horror this little boy faced. Senseless! RIP little one (you are surely in a better place right now) and I wish for a speedy recovery of the other victim as well.
Did I read this correctly?? “the suspect and the female victim may have been siblings. The child is believed to be related, as well…” If the child is ‘related’ to the male and female, who are siblings, does that mean it’s their kid?? I guess ‘related’ could mean cousin/nephew etc.
wow you figured that out all by yourself. congratulations
“Lavarias said the child sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest.” Who writes this garbage? “Sustain” implies that the person lived.
Also, how does one “say the child”? Oh, the word “that” is missing! Nice job, editor!
Our education system…
The use of “that” in this type of construction is optional, or actually, is deemed superfluous in modern written English.
In this context use of the word sustained is correct.
@ chris617 – did you get fired from the Star Advertiser? Sorry, I didn’t use a capitol D at the beginning of the sentence.
All the technologies in the world can’t harnessed or direct human beings emotional and moral’s conducts . These are taught by laws and commandments from God and man made rules! In addition, not all are open toward the commandments or laws of the land! Hence, tragic and diabolical actions are seen and done in our world and most of the time it’s victims are the innocent ones!
Well, it’s obvious what need to happen! BAN KNIVES!!
Actually, you’ve made it obvious what needs to happen… Now, did you drop down a manhole yet?
Very sad. Poor boy.
Too bad he didn’t provoke the cops into shooting him as that would have been justice for killing the kid…now the taxpayers will be picking up the tab to feed and house this low life until he expires…..this is why there needs to be capital punishment for people who murder children……
What do you mean for life. He make a plea deal & get about 8yrs. Our wonderful court system will see to that.
Micronesian?
Sorry to say that was my first thought.
Chuukese, I figure.
How about societal problems of trying to pack more and more people on Oahu, building million dollar mega condos under the guise of transit oriented development and affordable housing and having Hawaii residents who can least afford it saddled with a $15-20 BILLION train to nowhere puts too many family members packed into sardine sized apartments and blowups resulting in situation like this more and more common. There is a finite carrying capacity for any environment and Oahu reached it long ago but that does not stop special interest with politicians in their pocket from completely disregarding these limits
My deepest ALOHA to the child’s ohana. So senseless. Hope the woman fully recovers from her injuries.
