Two people were killed and one was injured Thursday in an accident in Kailua-Kona involving a semi dump truck.
The Hawaii County Fire Department said in a news release that the dump truck, fully loaded with gravel, T-boned a sport utility vehicle at about 12:34 p.m. on Highway 190 at the 31.5 mile marker.
The first fire unit arrived on scene at 12:42 p.m. and found two people in the SUV dead, while the driver of the dump truck was able to exit the vehicle and was taken by medics to the Kona Community Hospital.
Hauula collision victim ID’d as Kaaawa man
A 52-year-old driver killed in Wednesday’s head-on collision in Hauula has been identified as Stanley Santos of Kaaawa.
Police said Santos was traveling north on Kamehameha Highway near Trout Farm Road in Kahana Valley and collided head-on with a pickup truck traveling south.
Police said the Mustang crossed the centerline.
The pickup truck driver and passenger, both in their 50s, were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Police said Santos was not wearing a seat belt.
It’s unknown at this time whether speed or alcohol were factors.
Suspect in fatal McCully shooting indicted
An Oahu grand jury indicted a 26-year-old man Wednesday for a deadly shooting at an illegal McCully game room.
Nathaniel Foster has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kioco Melson, shot multiple times at a game room at 2203 Beretania St.
Foster’s arraignment is scheduled for Monday at Circuit Court. He remains at Oahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $1 million bail.
Foster and Melson, 24, were seen arguing about money on the night of Nov. 23 before Foster allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic gun from his fanny pack and shot Melson multiple times.
Foster fled soon after the shooting. A SWAT team located him in Kalihi on Saturday.
Witnesses said both men worked at the game room.
