Waimanalo man charged in Kahala burglaries

Leila Fujimori

A 37-year-old Waimanalo man, who allegedly burglarized three Kahala homes among other crimes, was charged today.

Prosecutors charged Ivan Kong with three counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree robbery, unauthorized entry into a dwelling, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and first-degree terroristic threatening.

His bail was set at $250,000.

Police said Kong on Wednesday allegedly entered on a home in Kahala without permission and assaulted a victim.

He then allegedly fled in a stolen vehicle.

Kong next allegedly broke into two other houses and tried to take another vehicle, police said.

The victims include two women, ages 69 and 63, and three men, ages 70, 51 and 33.

The alleged crimes occurred between 11:35 a.m. and 11:55 a.m. Wednesday.

A good Samaritan driving by on Makaiwa Street saw Kong fleeing and chased him down and held him until police arrived, a KHON-2 news report said.

Police arrived and arrested Kong at 11:55 a.m.

Kong was convicted in 2011 for similar crimes, and was sentenced to five years in prison for three house burglaries and a motor vehicle theft.

Please put him away for a lot longer than the last time he had a crime spree, and don’t let him play any thug video games in prison either. Just let him watch COPS re-runs over and over.

When he was sentenced in 2011 to five-years in prison, the state judge said he was giving him a “break” and not sentencing him to concurrent jail time. Good job judge. He came out after serving his 5-years and he’s back to his old self, robbing and assaulting people. Hope you’re not the same judge that will sentence him this time. Catch and release. Our Judicial system. SAD…
