World War II veterans Ray Chavez, 104, left, and retired Rear Adm. Joe Vasey, 99, shook hands after ringing America’s Freedom Bell on Saturday at the USS Bowfin memorial in Pearl Harbor during a ceremony commemorating the 52 submarines lost during World War II. The bell was cast in bronze with steel from the twin towers in New York that were destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001.
