Income tax-filing procrastinators are catching a couple of breaks this year. Typically, whenever April 15 falls on a weekend day, the deadline moves to the following Monday. This year it moves to Tuesday because Emancipation Day will be observed on Monday in Washington, D.C. (The holiday marks the day in 1862 on which 3,100 slaves living in the Washington area were freed.)
In the islands, 27 U.S. Post Office locations will offer late collection of mail on Tuesday. With sufficient postage, tax forms dropped off in slots at specially designated blue boxes — labeled with bright orange signs — by midnight will get an April 18 postmark.
Cheer on UH men’s volleyball team tonight
It’s tournament time for the University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team, so fans, get your snacks and drinks ready. Making tonight’s MPSF quarterfinal game extra sweet is that No. 3 UH has earned the right to host No. 6 Pepperdine. If all goes well, and UH is the highest-remaining seed, it will host the semifinal and final matches on April 20 and April 22, respectively.
Tonight’s action starts at 7 p.m. Cheer on the home team.
