James Franco and son Lee came from Maui to welcome the Hokule‘a home on Saturday. They waved the Hawaiian flag at one of the seven other voyaging canoes that entered Ala Wai Harbor.

Nainoa Thompson, left, the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s president and a master navigator, was welcomed ashore. “It never sunk in until I came into the channel and looked around,” said Thompson, who was overcome by the huge welcome from thousands.
