Mandatory water restrictions are in place for North Kona even after a well that was out of service since Thursday was repaired, Hawaii County officials said Wednesday.
Officials with the county’s Department of Water Supply say that the Keahuolu Deepwell has been repaired and was operational as of Wednesday afternoon. However, four other wells in the area are still being repaired.
“You are reminded that the mandatory water restriction is still in effect for the North Kona area,” a county civil defense message said. “This means everyone must continue to reduce their normal usage by 25 percent.”
The restrictions limit water use to health and safety needs only.
County officials said that because North Kona residents cooperated with the water-use restrictions since last week, “water service was maintained to all users during this emergency.”
