A 71-year-old woman who died Thursday in a two-vehicle collision on Hawaii island has been identified as Bernadette Chock of Kailua-Kona.
At about 2:40 p.m., police said, a 2009 Nissan Frontier operated by a 48-year-old Kailua-Kona man was traveling north on Highway 190 at the 33-mile marker when he crossed the centerline. The Nissan struck a 2007 Honda CR-V head-on.
Chock, who was operating the Honda, was transported to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said Chock’s passenger, a 73-year-old man, also sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital.
The 48-year-old Nissan Frontier driver also sustained injuries and remains at the hospital.
Police said inattention was a factor in the crash.
This is the 23rd traffic-related fatality on Hawaii island compared with 15 at the same time last year.
