Herringbone has launched its weekend brunch, continuing its tradition of “Fish, Meats, Field” locally inspired menus.
From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fridays to Sundays, you’ll find much of the same cold fare that made the restaurant a hit with dinner crowds from Day One, such as yellowtail crudo, whole Kona lobsters and Alaska king crab by the pound.
New are such morning starters as garlic shrimp and grits with toasted coconut and Thai basil ($21), a salad of grilled steak and tomato with burrata ($22), bacon with chimichurri sauce ($5), chilaquiles with ranchero sauce and Portuguese sausage ($24) and biscuits and Pono Pork gravy over a generous layer of porchetta ($15).
Fans of the restaurant’s Ray Ray fries might want to try Ray Ray pancakes ($14), a dessertlike short stack with lilikoi butter, tree sap and seasonal fruits.
Bottomless mimosas and rose wine complete the experience.

OKTOBERFESTIVITIES
>> Salt at Kakaako: Saturday’s Bar Crawl will feature German beers and festival food served at Village Bottle Shop & Tasting Room, Moku Kitchen and Bevy.
Hank’s Haute Dogs will set up a pop-up stand in the center courtyard, offering a Bavarian- style bratwurst simmered in beer, with caraway sauerkraut and Dusseldorf mustard.
The celebration starts at 5 p.m., with music by the Oom Pah Zicke Zackes starting at 6 p.m., and runs until the closing time of each restaurant.
Pa‘akai Marketplace, a monthly showcase for Native Hawaiian merchants and artists, will run from 5 to 9 p.m.

>> Turtle Bay Resort: The resort’s first Oktoberfest will be held Sept. 23 at Kuilima Point, with live music, German food, craft beers, a stein-hoisting contest and a chicken dance.

A BENTO BEGINNING IN KAPOLEI
The new Ka Makana Ali‘i mall in Kapolei is quickly filling up with dining choices. The latest is Okome, a bento and sushi option in the food court.
Push your tray down the counter and fill up with hot choices such as mochiko chicken and misoyaki butterfish, tempura and boxed sushi sets. Build your own bento or order off the menu.
The restaurant opened quietly with limited hours a few weeks ago, but Monday marked its grand opening.
Although hours might vary for the first few days, the plan is to open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Call 800-4319.
