The Hokule‘a, the Hawaiian voyaging canoe, will set sail for Kauai this weekend.
The Hokule‘a is scheduled to leave Haleiwa Boat Harbor at 2:30 p.m. today for Hanalei Bay as part of its “Mahalo Hawaii Sail,” the Polynesian Voyaging Society said in a news release.
There will be a public arrival ceremony in Hanalei Bay at 10 a.m. Sunday.
“During the three-day Kauai trip, Hokule‘a crewmembers will participate with the community in events and activities that will highlight the recent Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage as well as the work being done within Kauai communities to care for island Earth,” the PVS said.
The crew will be making school visits Monday. The Hokule‘a crew plans to leave Kauai for Oahu on Tuesday afternoon or evening.

Applications await deer hunters on Lanai
Applications for the 2018 Lanai axis deer hunting season will be available beginning Monday at all offices of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife.
Applicants may apply online, and a $10 application fee will be assessed each person applying for the hunt.
The 2018 Lanai axis deer season will consist of four hunts:
>> The Archery Hunt, from Feb. 17 to 24
>> The Youth Hunt, March 3 and 4
>> The Muzzleloader Hunt, March 10 and 11
>> The General Rifle Hunt, over nine consecutive weekends, beginning March 17
