A man in his 40s or 50s was found dead after an apparent hit-and-run in Kunia overnight.

Paramedics found the unidentified man on Kunia Road near Royal Kunia at 12:26 a.m. Tuesday and declared him dead. According to an Emergency Medical Services bulletin, “he may have been the victim of a hit-and-run.”

The northbound lanes of Kunia Road at Plantation Road were closed as police investigated the scene, but they have since been reopened.

Blue mail collection box stolen in Kailua

U.S. postal inspectors are investigating the theft of a big blue mail collection box in Maunawili that was reported missing Monday.

U.S. Postal Inspection Service division spokesman Jeff Fitch said the box had been at 1066 Maunawili Road and was last seen there Saturday.

Fitch said postal inspectors think the box was taken sometime Sunday.

The postal service recommends people place their mail in the blue boxes before the last collection time.

“It’s not very often these things are taken,” he said.

Penalties for theft of a mailbox is up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

“It’s something we take very seriously,” Fitch said.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.

The Postal Inspection Service offers up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction.
