A 30-year-old Ewa Beach man admitted that he tried to discourage a witness from testifying in the upcoming federal sex trafficking trial of former Delaware death row inmate Isaiah
McCoy.
Jonathan Cadet, 30, pleaded guilty Monday
in U.S. District Court to witness tampering. He faces
a maximum three-year prison term at sentencing
in November.
Cadet is still on state probation for domestic abuse, stealing and possessing and using someone else’s credit card. He also has pending petty misdemeanor harassment and marijuana possession cases in state court.
The witness Cadet admitted tampering with is the victim in his state abuse case.
Cadet doesn’t know
McCoy. He told senior U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway that he contacted the witness and called the witness a rat and a snitch
after “a couple of guys on the street” told him that the witness was scheduled to testify against McCoy.
The government has
accused McCoy of sharing confidential information about his case with others. He is scheduled to stand trial next month for trafficking for prostitution of seven women and one minor
female.
