River of Life cook finds joy in feeding people from the heart

The nonprofit River of Life Mission in Chinatown largely depends on donated supplies. On a typical day, the Christian organization feeds over 200 guests such as the homeless and elderly. Hilda Gibson joined the mission eight years ago as a kitchen helper and is now in charge of feeding everyone.

Hilda Gibson has been the head cook at river of Life Mission for almost eight years, making delicious meals with limited resources and whatever donations arrive at the mission. Gibson is also a recovered drug addict and former prisoner, and earned a cooking certificate from KCC recently.
